Back when your fireplace was basically your kitchen. You pivot it out & put your pot of soup on the end & pivot it back into the fireplace. If you wanted to turn the heat down you would pivot away from the hottest area.  Measures about 30" tall by about 40" wide. Looks like it could easily be used again.
