Baroque Portrait Painting after Giovanni Francesso Romanelli's (1610 - 1662) "The Cumean Sible."
Romanelli was a major Italian painter of the Baroque Period. A "Sible" is housed in the Muscodi di Capodimante of Naples.
The Cumean Sibyl was the priestess presiding over the Apollonian oracleat Cumae, a Greek colony located near Naples. (The word Sibyl means prophetess via Latin.) The Cumean Sibly became the most famous of the Sibyls due to her proximity to Rome and the legends of early Rome as told in Virgil's Aeneid VI.
